Who we are

A group of local residents and interested and affected parties in the Wilderness-Lakes area who are taking action towards ensuring the highest environmental and conservation outcomes in respect of all development and building activity occurring in the area.

This includes all activities that pose a threat to the biodiversity and wildlife in the area, and the overall health of forest and fynbos biome of the region.

WHY DO WE EXIST?

• Unchecked and rapid development over the past 20 years in the Greater Wilderness area is a continual threat to the Afromontane forest and fynbos biome and the high level of biodiversity associated therewith.

• Lack of enforcement of town planning and environmental legislation by George Municipality, DFFE, DEA&DP, and Cape Nature to ensure sustainable development and legal building activities.

• Left unattended, the accumulated losses of forest and fynbos due to every town planning approval have incremental effects on the environment through “a thousand little cuts” produced by each development!

• It is for the benefit of all living in the Wilderness to be aware, remained informed, and keep an eye on the ongoing activities that have the potential to undermine the natural beauty and sense of place that Wilderness offers … these two primary attractors that pull us to come and live in the Wilderness area are the very attractors that are being threatened if left unchecked and turning a blind eye.
