LATEST UPDATE ON EIA AND PPP – Erf 1297 Wilderness, Kleinkranz (16 October 2024)
Many of us are aware of the development proposals that have been put forward for Erf 1297, Wilderness (Kleinkrantz) from various sources over the past few years.
WALEAF’s position on Erf 1297 remains: We are looking for the best conservation outcome for Erf 1297 and support the views of both SANParks and Minister Bredell. Ideally WALEAF would like to see the entire 30 ha being transferred to SANParks since a) the property buffers on the GRNP; b) SANParks have requested to have Erf 1297 incorporated into the GRNP as part of their expansion footprint; and c) the land had been recognised by the likes of Minister Bredell for its conservation value and the need for protection thereof. WALEAF, however, is not opposed to sustainable development on the old resort area on Erf 1297 and would, in the event of a new definitive development lease agreement ensuring the property would remain open to the public, consider supporting such LIMITED development on the footprint of the old resort (approx. 3,5 ha) with the balance (approx. 27 ha) of the property transferred to SANParks
